CHICO, Calif. - The Salvation Army in Chico hosted breakfast on Friday morning to mark the kickoff to the Red Kettle Season.

It kicked off at around 7 a.m. on Friday at the Salvation Army Community Center on East 16th Street.

Five teams from area businesses competed in the Red Kettle Dash, where each team tried to raise the most at Friday's kick-off.

'Dutch Bros' won the dash, all the teams combined raised more than $12,000 for the Salvation Army.

"These rooms filled with my friends, these are all people that have supported the Salvation Army who has supported me personally," Captain for Salvation Army in Chico, Arwyn Rodriguera said. "So I get very excited to be with people that have a vision for the community and that can teach me how to do better do the calling that I have here in Chico."

Action News Now Anchor Debbie Cobb was up bright and early to attend the event. The Red Kettle donations make up one-sixth of all the donations for the year. The money provides services for those less fortunate and is also used to offer support during disasters, like the Camp Fire.
