FORTUNA, Calif. - Two men believed to have stolen power tools from a Humboldt County barn were arrested after being spotted by Fortuna police, said the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies were sent to a home on Wednesday at the 400 block of Camp Weott Road, outside of the Ferndale city limits for a report of a burglary.

Arriving deputies said the victim found two men, Brandon Buchholz, 27, of Arcata and Ryan Whittington, 30, of Eureka, stealing power tools and other objects from her barn.

The suspects gave some of the stolen items back to the victim after she confronted them about stealing.

The victim was able to take pictures of the suspects before they fled in a white Nissan Xterra, but only to discover moments later that the men got away with more stolen property, including the keys to tractor equipment.

Buchholz and Whittington were found by Fortuna police parked outside of a home at the 3400 block of School St in Fortuna.

One suspect was inside the Nissan while the other was captured inside a home following a probation search.

Buchholz and Whittington were arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of grand theft and an additional charge for Whittington for violation of probation.

All the stolen items were recovered and returned to the barn owner.
