BCSO arrests registered sex offender for possession of child pornography

The Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said it has arrested a Biggs man for possession of child pornography.

BIGGS, Calif. – The Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said it has arrested a Biggs man for possession of child pornography.

Butte County Sheriff’s detectives said they began investigating 58-year-old Stephen Wortham, of Biggs, earlier in 2020. He is a registered sex offender.

On Nov. 2, Wortham arrived at the Butte County Sheriff’s Office to update his sex offender registration, as required by law. During this process, detectives obtained Wortham’s cell phone to conduct a forensic search and located multiple images of child pornography.

On Nov. 3, detectives placed Wortham under arrest and booked into the Butte County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.
