UPDATE: 8:55 a.m., Friday, 10/09/20 - The man found dead on the side of the road on Sep. 28, 2020, near Montgomery Creek has been identified by Shasta County sheriff's deputies.
The man was known as Noel Garcia, 34, of Hayward.
Sheriff's deputies say he was a documented Campo Ramos Locos gang member and was on active parole from the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.
Garcia was given parole based on attempted murder charges out of West Sacramento.
Deputies also say he was part of a marijuana growing operation in the Windy Point Neighborhood near Montgomery Creek.
Investigators learned Garcia had recently arrived in Shasta County to work on the marijuana operation on September 28, 2020.
As part of Garcia's parole conditions, he was required to notify his parole officer before leaving West Sacramento.
He did not, according to investigators. The marijuana operation in the Windy Point neighborhood has since been eradicated.
Sheriff's deputies are still actively looking for the suspect(s) in Garcia's death. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (530)-245-6135.
There is a reward of $5,000 from Secret Witness for any information leading to an arrest.
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – Authorities are searching for a murder suspect after a deadly shooting near Montgomery Creek.
Deputies from the Burney Patrol Station were in a remote area of Shasta County, near Highway 299 east and Bakus Road, in Round Mountain. Deputies said they heard several gunshots from the area of Windy Point Road, in Montgomery Creek Monday after 10 p.m.
Deputies found the victim dead on the side of the road, with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Witnesses reported hearing an argument just before the gunshots, but no arrest has been made at this time.
Action News Now is working to learn the identity of the victim.
