Authorities searching for missing family in Butte County

The Butte County Sheriff's Office is searching for a family missing in an area above Stirling City.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office has announced the name of the father missing with his children. 

Michael Mercado, 25, has been missing with his 7- and 2-year-old kids since Sunday.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has asked anyone with information to call at 530-538-7322.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office is searching for a family missing in an area above Stirling City.

At around 1 a.m. on Monday, the sheriff's office received a call from a woman who reported her husband and two kids missing.

Search and rescue crews are currently searching between Stirling City and Inskip. Their command post is where Skyway Road and Powellton Road intersect.

She said her husband and kids went to the area on Sunday and she hasn't been able to reach them.

Crews located a jeep that belonged to the family, but it was unoccupied.

Authorities said that the kids weren't dressed for the snow, and there was snow in the area.
