REDDING, Calif. – Redding Fire investigators arrested a man on suspicion of arson Thursday.
The Redding Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire at 3599 Rancho Road Thursday morning. Crews located a spot of grass and brush on fire near an illegal transient encampment. Firefighters quickly contained the fire without further spread.
Redding Fire investigators said they learned that a transient, later identified as Robert Ward, was seen leaving the area shortly after the fire started. Investigators were able to locate Ward, who confessed to starting the fire, according to RFD.
Ward was arrested for intentionally starting the fire and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
