CHICO, Calif. - A large clothing donation trailer in the parking lot of the Chico Marketplace (the mall on E. 20th Street) was on fire early Monday morning. Chico Mall's security reported that an unknown suspect had set fire to the trailer, according to the Chico Police Department.
Chico police responded and were provided with security camera recordings by the Mall's security team. Police said the person caught on camera was wearing unique clothing and was easily identifiable.

The suspect contacted Chico police again at 3:00 Monday afternoon, telling them that someone matching the suspect's description was walking in their parking lot. When Chico police officers arrived they arrested 24-year-old Vanya Hummel for arson. Police said Hummel was confirmed to be on felony probation through Siskiyou County for assault with a deadly weapon.
Damage to the donation facility and the items inside was estimated to be between $10,000 and $20,000.
