CHICO, Calif. - Chico police arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of stolen mail on Wednesday.

Chico Police Officers received a call on Wednesday, March 31, at 8:20 a.m. of a person unconscious in the driver seat of a running vehicle in the Burnt Ranch Way area.

The driver, Eric Rehse, was initially uncooperative when officers arrived but soon agreed to leave his vehicle. Rehse was given field sobriety tests due to signs of being under the influence of an unknown substance.

Rehse was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance while operating a motor vehicle and sent to Butte County Jail.

A search of Rehse’s vehicle turned up hundreds of pieces of mail that were not his, including a set of “shaved” keys and a lock pick set, according to police.

The stolen mail was returned to the United States Post Office to be re-delivered.

It was nice to receive some rain and mountain snow around northern California late Sunday and early Monday. Thankfully a change to our overall weather pattern is underway, and many more chances of rain are coming!
