Redding homeless murder victim identified

Redding Police have identified the man murdered in his tent at a Redding homeless camp Tuesday morning.

UPDATE, Oct. 20 5:18 P.M. - The identity of the man killed in an encampment in Redding has been revealed by Redding Police Department. 

50-year-old Karl Lee Bernardo, a known homeless man, was found dead in his tent Tuesday morning with several gunshot wounds.

REDDING, CALIF. -  Police arrested a 19-year-old for a deadly shooting at a Redding homeless camp, according to the Redding Police Department. 

Officers say they responded just before 11 a.m. Tuesday in what's known as Mercy Canyon behind Mercy Medical Center, where the victim was found dead in a tent, with several gunshot wounds.

Detectives identified Alejandro Nunez Armstrong as a person of interest in the case, after looking at surveillance video, gathering evidence, and speaking to people who live in the area.

They interviewed Armstrong at the police department and say he confessed to the crime, but did not provide a clear motive.

Armstrong was arrested on one count of homicide.

The identity of the victim will not be released until his family is notified.
