CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police Department officers said they were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the 7-Eleven on 1111 Forest Avenue, on Feb. 7 at 11:30 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene and learned an unidentified suspect had fled from the business on foot prior to officers arriving on the scene.

Officials said during the investigation, it was learned the unidentified suspect had taken an ice cream from inside the business and attempted to leave the business without paying for it. When an employee working at the business confronted the suspect regarding the theft, the suspect brandished a knife at the employee.

According to police, the store employee was not hurt during the incident and the suspect fled on foot. Officers began checking the surrounding areas for the suspect.

Officers located a subject who matched the description near the corner of E. 8th St. and Forest Ave. The subject, later identified as Jeffry Williams, 37, of Chico, was detained without further incident.

Police said Williams was positively identified as the suspect by a business employee. At the time of the arrest, Williams was still in possession of the fixed blade knife and the ice cream from the business. Williams was placed under arrest for Robbery.

Officials said Williams is also currently on Parole out of California for a weapons offense. Williams also had an outstanding warrant for a Parole Violation. Williams was ultimately transported to the Butte County Jail.

Thursday was the last fairly quiet weather day that we'll have in northern California as a series of storms will move our way through next week. Our first chance for rain and snow showers arrives Friday morning with a cold front.
