BANNING, Calif. — Containment of the Apple Fire remains at 60%, with much progress made on northern control lines, Cal Fire said. The wildfire has burned 33,234 acres.

The wildfire straddling Riverside and San Bernardino counties had consumed nearly 43 square miles of brush and trees since it broke out Friday, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

There are no remaining Evacuation Warnings in effect. The San Gorgonio Wilderness is closed to all use. An Emergency Forest Closure Order is in effect as of Aug. 2, 2020. The order prohibits all entry into the San Gorgonio Wilderness and some adjacent areas. Also, all Forest Service recreation areas in the Forest Falls area are closed. Fire restrictions have increased across the San Bernardino National Forest.

The blaze, sparked by a malfunctioning vehicle, burned a dozen buildings, including four homes.
