ANDERSON, Calif. - An Anderson Police Officer was on patrol in the Ballentine Drive area on April 27, around 11 p.m. where there had been reports of recent thefts.

The officer found an occupied vehicle in a construction area closed to the public. The person was confronted and later identified as Jason Craig Gibson, 44, of Anderson.

During the contact, Gibson kept attempting to reach for the center console area of his truck. Gibson was asked if he had a firearm in the vehicle and he responded by saying he had a handgun.

Gibson was asked to exit his vehicle and was detained. A records check revealed Gibson did not have a concealed weapons permit.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a loaded magazine, around 8.3 grams of methamphetamine, a broken methamphetamine pipe and more ammunition.

Gibson was placed under arrest and booked into the Shasta County Jail for possession of a firearm by a drug addict, possession of ammunition by a drug addict, possession of a firearm while in possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.

Thankfully, the wind is cooperating much better today in northern California. Our weather is still quite hot for this time of year and very dry. There is plenty of haze and smoke from the Fawn Fire overhead, and it isn't leaving yet.
