ANDERSON, Calif. - Anderson Police K-9 Chance received a medal of valor for his efforts in the line of duty.

Chance helped take down a suspect late last year. On Dec. 29, 2018, the Anderson Police Department responded to a chase that had entered city limits. Once the suspect rammed into a police vehicle he ran under the Anderson Bridge, followed by K-9 Chance. The K-9 was shot in the ear by the suspect but still continued efforts to detain him.

Chance was honored for his heroic efforts on Tuesday night in front of the entire city council.

"I mean, the department has stated that had it not been for K-9 Chance, December's arrest would have most likely have resulted in the loss of a human life," said Tyler Finch, an officer with the Anderson Police Department.

In an effort to raise money for K-9 officers, the department is selling plush dolls of the different K-9's on duty.

The dolls are $20 and can be purchased at the Anderson Police Department.
