BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A man was charged with three separate murders and attempted murder, said Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey.
37-year-old Ryan Blinston of Oroville was charged for the murders of Sandra George, Vicky Cline, Loreen Severs, and the attempted murder of Severs husband, Homer.
Ramsey and Tehama County District Attorney Matt Rogers combined all the cases and the multi-murder complaint would allow the district attorneys to pursue a life without the possibility of parole sentence.
Blinston is facing separate charges for the attempted murder of a Brush Creek man.
The investigation determined Blinston worked for a tree-trimming service that was working at the Severs' home in Los Molinos on May 18, 2020.
Blinston returned to the Servers' home a few days later when he killed Loreen and attempted to kill Homer after entering their home and cutting their throats.
Blinston was working with a crew in Oroville on June 4, 2020, that was working at George's home. When work was completed, Blinston returned to George's home and slit her throat inside her home.
Cline was an acquaintance of Blinston and was last seen with him in downtown Oroville. On June 6, 2020, an arson fire destroyed Cline's car, and blood and DNA evidence on and in Blinston's car were matched to Cline.
On June 21, 2020, her body was discovered in the Feather River by a fisherman near Belden. Her throat had consistent damage as the other victims.
Butte County Sheriff's SWAT team approached a motorhome in an isolated area of Brush Creek to serve an arrest warrant on Blinston for the arson of Cline's car on June 14, 2020.
Blinston was staying on the property with a 50-year-old man and when the SWAT team was approaching they heard muffled screams of a man inside the motorhome and loud banging on the outside.
The loud banging was Blinston attempting to enter the motorhome with a hatchet.
The resident later told officer Blinston attacked him and cut his throat while he was sleeping. The resident was able to kick Blinston out of the motorhome and lock the door.
Blinston was attempting to get back into the motorhome with the hatchet when the officers coincidently arrived.
Blinston ran into the woods but was captured by the SWAT team and the resident was taken by helicopter to a local hospital.
The man survived and Blinston was charged with attempted murder.
Blinston has been in Butte County Jail without bail pending court proceedings as the investigation continues.
Blinston will be in court on May 13 at 3 p.m. to face his new charges.
