REDDING, Calif. - A man who confessed to being a methamphetamine and heroin addict was arrested after officers found him with a loaded handgun, possibly stolen from a Carr Fire evacuation area, at a Carl’s Jr restaurant, said the Redding Police Department.

According to RPD, officers found two men attempting to hide behind a dumpster at the 1800 Eureka Way Carl’s Jr.

There, police found Christian Benjamin, 20, of Redding along with another man under the influence of methamphetamine, officials said.

Benjamin had a loaded 9 mm handgun in his waistband and he told authorities that he found it in the alleyway and tried to sell it, officials said.

Officers also found he was in possession of methamphetamine and heroin and confessed to officers that he is an addict to the drugs.

Benjamin was charged with being a prohibited person possessing a firearm, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed, and possession of heroin.

Redding police say it is possible that the gun was stolen from a victim in the evacuation areas of the Carr Fire, who may not know that the gun is missing.
