Man arrested for deadly stabbing at Bedrock Park

UPDATE: Oroville officers have arrested a man in connection to the deadly stabbing at Bedrock Park.

UPDATE 8:41 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30 - Oroville officers have arrested 36-year-old Andrew J. Smith in connection to the deadly stabbing at Bedrock Park.

Smith was booked into the Butte County Jail for the homicide of 39-year-old Justin Ritchie. 

Smith's bail is set at $1 million dollars.

OROVILLE, Calif. - Late Monday evening Oroville police responded to a call about an assault at Bedrock Park where a man had been stabbed.

Aug. 26, Monday evening around 11:45 p.m. Oroville police received a 911 call about an assault that occurred at Bedrock Park in Oroville. Police blocked off a section of Bedrock park and stayed on the scene for several hours.

Further investigation revealed that a physical altercation occurred at Bedrock Park and a victim was on the way to a nearby hospital.

The scene of the alleged assault was identified by Oroville police officers. Through the investigation, it was revealed that a man had been stabbed during the incident. The victim later died due to his injuries.
