AAUW Offers STEM Adventuure for Middle-School Girls

Formerly Career Trek, Stem Adventure to take place at Butte Community College February 23rd.

The Butte County branches of the American Association of University Women are teaming up with Butte Community College to offer a day of discovery and career exploration for middle-school girls focusing on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). 

The day includes visits to science labs for exciting demonstrations by Butte College instructors, and hearing from womenh currently working in STEM fields.   The girls will also have the opportunity to do hands-on activities with the women whose careers most interest them.

STEM Adventure (formerly Career Trek) is taking place on Saturday, February 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Parents are invited to attend with their daughters.   

The cost is $7 per student and $7 each for parents. Breakfast and lunch are included. Scholarships are available through AAUW for students with financial need. Some branches also offer rides. Students should indicate either need on the registration form.  

Forms are available at Butte County middle schools. They are due back at the school by February 14th.

It wasn't as hot for northern California today, but temperatures still reached seasonable summer levels and more thunderstorms sprung over our eastern counties. After one more seasonable day, hotter weather will return to our area.
