RICHVALE, Calif. – The Butte County Coroner's Office identified the woman killed in a collision involving a train and a pickup truck Sunday evening in Butte County.

Officers said the collision happened Sunday just after 7 p.m. in the Richvale area on Highway 162 near Riceton Highway.

The driver of a 2010 Toyota Tundra, identified as David Hansen, 84 from San Jose, was headed westbound on Highway 162. As Hansen was approaching a railroad crossing west of Riceton Highway, a Union Pacific train was headed south, towards Highway 162, the CHP said.

Officers said for an unknown reason, Hansen did not stop his car as he approached the railroad crossing. The train began to cross Highway 162 and Hansen’s car collided with the railroad warning arm and struck the front train car of the Union Pacific train, the CHP said.

The collision caused Hansen’s car to rotate and come to a stop in an easterly direction. The passenger in the Toyota Tundra, 79-year-old Jane Hansen from San Jose, was killed, according to the Butte County Coroner's Office. David Hansen was life-flighted to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.

CHP officers said all railroad warning equipment appeared to be working. Officers said David and Jane were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Editors Note: A previous version of this article said the passenger, Jane Hansen was 80-years-old. The Butte County Coroner's Office confirmed to Action News Now she was 79-years-old.
