Person injured after a car crash and vegetation fire above Magalia in Butte County

The CAL FIRE Butte unit responded to the Powelton Incident on the Upper Ridge above Magalia after a report of a car that caught on fire and spread to nearby vegetation.

UPDATED 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 - Several first responders had some trouble locating the incident. CAL FIRE says the location is on Powerlton Road above Magalia, somewhere near Lovelock.

The vegetation fire that started as a result of the crash was contained to a 30' by 30' area.

One person was injured and was flown from the area for medical treatment at a local hospital.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Powelton Incident was reported to CAL FIRE Butte County just before noon on Saturday, September 26, 2020.  A single-vehicle crash was reported that resulted in a car fire, says CAL FIRE. After the car caught on fire, flames spread to nearby vegetation. The location is on Powelton Road not far from the Skyway.

As of approximately 12:45 p.m., CAL FIRE Public Information Officer Rick Carhart told Action News Now that the spread of the fire had been stopped and no other helicopters or engines would be required.

Carhart confirmed that a civilian was injured during the Powelton Incident. Flight care was sent to the scene to transport the wounded civilian to a local hospital.
