Surging case numbers have some cities making preemptive strikes. L.A. County Health Director Barbara Ferrer said, "Just two weeks ago we were looking at maybe 1200 cases a day - and now we are at 4700 cases a day. She recalled that one day there were 6,000 new cases.
Starting Monday, gatherings in L.A. County with anyone outside of a person's household will be banned. The only exceptions are religious services and protests.
