UPDATE: 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office has identified the bicyclist killed in Butte Meadows Sunday.
63-year-old Diane Ruby of Chico died as the result of a crash on Humboldt Road around 10 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
CHP said the driver of an SUV, slowed to avoid hitting another cyclist. That's when the CHP said Ruby swerved on her bike, lost control and slammed into the SUV. She was transported to Enloe Medical Center, where she later died.
The CHP said drugs, alcohol, or speed did not appear to be factored in the accident.
Editors Note: An earlier version of this article said Diane Ruby was 65. On Tuesday, the Butte County Coroner's learned that she was actually 63.
CHICO, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office has yet to identify a bicyclist killed in Butte Meadows.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. Sunday on Humboldt Road, near Malloy Creek Trail.
Investigators said the driver of a Honda CRV, slowed to avoid hitting one of two cyclists. A second cyclist, a 63-year-old woman, swerved, lost control and slammed into the Honda. She was transported to Enloe Medical Center but died a short time later.
The CHP said drugs, alcohol, nor speed are believed to be involved.
