PARADISE, Calif. - It has been six months since the Camp Fire, Action News Now went to Paradise and spoke to people from there about their memories.
Ken Blanton is from Paradise and reflected on his story of survival.
"I went in the backyard to check on my dog, and there were embers dropping all over the place, and then I even took a picture and put it on Facebook and was like it might not be a good day in Paradise," he said.
Geralynne Rader remembers saying bye to her neighbors.
"I went to serve in my community which I am grateful I did. I said goodbye to my ex-husband who lived next door and my neighbor Dawn and said I will see you later. You know, it didn't turn out that way."
Cassie Davis recalls being in her car with her kids.
"My dad had already made it to Chico," she said. "There was a little spot fire next to my car and that was the one moment where my heart was racing and I was thinking like what am I going to do if my car catches fire or something, or I am stuck and I can't get out and I have kids in the car."
Even though it is emotional talking about the memories from six months ago, some people are still filled with hope.
"If you drive around you can see the lots that are being cleared of all the debris with the quantity and amount of dump trucks coming out of town just with loads of debris and removing that. It just shows how much work is being done right now and they are still ramping that up," said Matthew Gates, with the Paradise Police Department.
Blanton spoke about the home he's helping rebuild.
"And the first project of ours we got the frame going up right now. You know that's a positive aspect of it there's still like hope and then there's grief. There's a whole lot of emotions," he said.
"It's bittersweet," Radar said. "I am grateful the town is cleaning up. You look around and we see a lot of the debris removed and so it does give hope for our community, but it will never be the same."
