BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County's Assessor is warning of a possible scam in the Magalia area.
The county's assessor, Diane Brown, sent out an alert saying people have been knocking on doors in the Magalia area, saying they represent the Butte County Assessor's Office and demanding money.
The Assessor's Office said it is responsible for locating and identifying all taxable property in the County as well as establishing taxable value for all property subject to property taxation. However, the Assessor's Office does not collect taxes, representatives of the Assessor's Office will not visit your home and ask for money, Brown said in a news release.
