Update 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 - The U.S. Postal Service has announced the temporary closure of the Hornbrook Post Office due to the Klamathon Fire and the mandatory evacuations that were issued by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office. Until the evacuations are lifted, Hornbrook postal customers can retrieve their mail and obtain retail services at the Yreka Post Office at 401 S. Broadway St. in Yreka. They are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Update: 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 - CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit and the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office have confirmed the death of a civilian during the Klamathon Fire. The name of the deceased will be released after investigators confirm the person's identity and notify their next of kin.

The California Highway Patrol is reopening Interstate 5 from Fawndale Road in Yreka to Ashland, Oregon to through traffic only. They say the communities of Hornbrook and Hilt are still under evacuation orders and no one can exit the freeway into those areas. The CHP will be conducting escorts in the beginning to keep the flow of traffic slow due to the prescense of firefighters still in the area. They ask drivers to not try to circumvent the closure by using Ager Road or SR 263/96, as there are hard closures still in effect in those areas.
The fire is located off Klamathon Road and Copco Road south of Hornbrook. There are evacuations in progress for the town of Hornbrook, north of Copco Road. An evacuation order is in effect for Klamathon Road from Interstate 5 to Ager and all Hornbrook City all the way to and including Hilt/Colestein Valley.
And evacuation shelter is open at the Jackson Street School in Yreka. A large animal shelter is open at Siskiyou Fairgrounds.
CAL FIRE says the Klamathon Fire has burned 8,000 acres and 5% contained.

UPDATE: 12:00 a.m. Caltrans District 2 officials are advising drivers both public, commercial and private, that Interstate 5 near the California - Oregon border will remain closed throughout the night due to the Klamathon Fire.
Interstate 5 will remains closed between Yreka and Ashland.
Cal Trans recommends that people limit travel if possible, stay in Redding or further south in Red Bluff or Corning until the road is clear.
Caltrans District 2 says they will not be able to update information until the morning, depending on conditions.
For residents evacuated from the town of Hornbrook, Cal Fire says an evacuation shelter is open at the Jackson Street School. And a large animal shelter is at the Siskiyou Fairgrounds.
UPDATE: 10:37p.m. The California Highway Patrol is closing I-5 at Fawndale Road.
Commercial trucks going to Highway 97 from Weed to Klamath Falls with be permitted beyond that point.
The CHP says all commercial lodging north of Redding is booked full.
Cal Fire says the Klamathon Fire is 5,000 acres and is 0% contained.
YREKA, Calif. - A 500-acre fire in Siskiyou County has prompted evacuations near Interstate 5 in Hornbrook.
According to Cal Fire incidents page, the “Klamathon Fire” is burning off Klamathon and Copco Roads, no word yet on structures damaged.
An Evacuation Order is in effect for all of Klamathon Rd from 1-5 to Ager including all side roads south of Klamathon Rd. Evacuations in progress for the town of Hornbrook, north of Copco Road.
CHP is closing Interstate northbound beginning at north Yreka and southbound at Ashland, Oregon.
An evacuation shelter is open at the Jackson Street School. Large Animal shelter at Siskiyou Fairgrounds.
