REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office on Friday successfully found an autistic child that went missing outside his grandfather’s residence in the Redding neighborhood of Keswick.

According to sheriff’s deputies, a man called police at about 5:16 p.m., to report that his 5-year-old grandson with autism was missing for nearly an hour from their residence at the 11000 block of Market Street.

Multiple agencies responded to the call including Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Land Management in an effort to locate the child.

Cal Fire personnel and a Keswick resident found the boy walking along the Sacramento River Trail about a half mile away from the grandfather’s residence.

The boy was reunited with his family and the child didn’t appear to have any major injuries, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office did not reveal how long it took for authorities to find the boy.
