REDDING, Calif.
- With 14 mostly sold out shows since February, the Redding Civic Auditorium is having one of it's best seasons ever.

“We had Modest Mouse on Sunday night,” marketing director and booking agent Nathan Parmelee said. “It was a sold out show. We had a packed house, 2,200 people. That's exciting for Redding you know to get a band like Modest Mouse here especially to sell it out, for the band to have a great experience. It opens up opportunities to have other shows.”

It's a stark contrast from just a few years ago when the Civic was struggling just to stay afloat.

“For the last three years, we've really increased the volume of shows,” Parmelee said. “You know we're triple, four times where the venue was before.”

It's because of that success that Parmelee said Redding is primed for a major music festival.

“We've been talking about doing a major music festival for a long time,” he said. “And we've actually reached that point where we feel like we can make it happen.”

The Redd Sun Festival is scheduled for September and will feature eight acts spread out over two days on the front lawn of the Civic.

Saturday September 29th is a day full of rock, while Sunday, September 30th will feature back-to-back country music acts.

“We'll have a major festival stage actually situated right behind us and facing over both of the lawns,” Parmelee said. “And we'll have vendors, food, alcohol, activities, art installations. It'll be the full festival experience.”

And organizers expect to attract somewhere around 10,000 people from near and far.

“And with the nature of the acts that we have confirmed for the festival, we know that we're going to be pulling up from Sacramento, the Bay Area over from Reno, down from southern Oregon,” Parmelee said. “That's very exciting for Redding. That's a huge influx of revenue into the community.”

Parmelee remained tight-lipped on the festival’s roster, but said one of the headliners is currently on the Billboard alt rock top 10 chart.

“That's the one little tidbit that I'll tell you,” he said. “So these are major acts. People are going to be really excited when that lineup gets announced.”

That lineup will be announced June 4.
