UPDATE: 5/19/2018 6:00 p.m.
Magalia, Calif.-- A Magalia man is accused of holding deputies at bay in an hours-long standoff.
It happened Friday evening on Mason court in Magalia.
Butte County deputies were called to the home for a domestic disturbance.
One female was able to get out of the home safely.
Investigators say they sent in a K-9.
But they say 36-year-old Logan Awalt punched and attacked the dog, and eventually the dog retreated. The K-9 was not injured.
Eventually, Awalt escaped and barricaded himself in a neighbor's home, where there were several firearms.
The SWAT team finally went in and tased and arrested him.
Deputies say they were told that Awalt was high on LSD, though that is still being investigated.
"Under the influence of some of these drugs either hallucinogens or central nervous system stimulants like methamphetamine or cocaine, their pain tolerance is much much higher. They do seem to have abnormal strength and endurance and their level of aggression is much higher. The typical tactics that we use to de-escalate people and bring them into custody in a peaceful manner often don't work because they are so agitated and so violent," said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.
No deputies or law enforcement officers were injured.
Awalt faces a number of felony charges.
