CHICO, Calif. - A huge fire broke out at an apartment complex in Chico early Sunday morning destroying one unit and closing one street for more than an hour.

According to the Chico Fire Department (CFD), the blaze broke out just before 6 a.m. at 346 Nord Ave which prompted crews to evacuate the entire building.

Multiple agencies responded, including:

• The Chico Fire Department
• The Chico Police Department
• Butte County Cal Fire
• Butte Medics
• PG&E

Arriving firefighters first saw heavy fire showing from the rear of the building and with quick work, they managed to stop the fire from extending further, according to CFD.

As a result, dozens of apartment units were saved from the damage but one unit was destroyed, displacing two residents.

The fire caused Nord Avenue to shut down between Stewart Avenue and West First Street beginning at 6:15 a.m. but reopened at about 7:35 a.m., according to CFD.

Luckily no one was injured during the fire and the cause is still under investigation.
