CHICO, Calif - A very busy Cesar Chavez holiday ultimately led to 36 arrests and 50 citations in Chico, according to a press release sent by the Chico Police Department.
In a press release written by Commander Mike Rodden, this year’s holiday was busier compared to last year’s event, prompting more officers to be on staff for the weekend.
The arrests consisted of:
• 8 for public intoxication
• 2 for illegal weapon possession
• 1 for resisting arrest
• 25 for various other crimes or warrant arrests
The majority of the citations were issued in the South Campus area for open alcohol containers and minor in possession of alcohol violations, according to Chico police.
Authorities noticed several large parties ring out before 7 a.m. on Friday and continued until midnight, while on Saturday several parties were reported around noon and also lasted until midnight.
Chico police were aided by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, CSU Chico Police Department and the California Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control.
