CHICO, Calif - A total of 27 arrests were made during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Chico and police believe crime associated with the holiday is decreasing, according to a press release sent by the Chico Police Department.
CPD officials said during the holiday weekend they had a minimal staff to work with but added an extra team on Saturday to handle calls for service in the downtown and South Campus area.
There was an increase in activity around the downtown area starting at noon and lasting until midnight, and police believe bars shutting down at midnight might have helped reduce issues.
The 27 arrests consist of:
• 10 arrests for drunk in public
• Seven arrests for violence (battery/domestic violence)
• Four warrant arrests
• Three DUI arrests
• One arrest for theft
• One arrest for drug possession
• One arrest for trespassing
The police department said they have noticed a reduction of crime with this holiday over the course of the last several years.
