HAPPY VALLEY, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) believes excessive speed played a factor in a crash that occurred in Happy Valley on Sunday morning, killing a 21-year-old driver.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. the unidentified driver of a BMW was entering a sweeping right turn while traveling east on China Gulch Dr. west of Canyon Rd.

The driver lost control of the BMW due to the high rate of speed it was traveling, said the CHP. The BMW went off the roadway, overturned and collided with a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
