How do I fill out my ballot?

The recall ballot will have two questions on it. The first question will ask voters if they want to recall Governor Newsom and the second question will ask if the governor is recalled, who should replace him.

Voters can vote on either question or can vote on both parts.

When do polls open?

Polls are open Tuesday starting at 7 a.m. and will be open until 8 p.m. Any registered voter in California can decide whether to vote at a polling place or vote by mail. Click here to learn more.

If you experience trouble voting, or need information, call the non-partisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) or click here.

What are the possible outcomes?

If 50% or more of the votes are no, then Gov. Newsom will remain in office. If more than 50% of the votes are yes, Gov. Newsom will be removed from office and the person with the most votes would replace him.

Who are the candidates running in the recall election?

There are 46 replacement candidates. For a full list of candidates, click here

If Gov. Newsom is recalled, when would a new governor take office?

County election officials have 30 days to complete an official canvass. On the 38th day after the election and the recall is successful, the Secretary of State will certify the results and the new governor would take the oath of office and become the governor for the remainder of the term that is set to go through Jan. 2, 2023.
