UPDATE: 11:43 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2020 - After announcing that the Glenn County Fair has been canceled, fair board members have now shared that the Junior Livestock Auction has also been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
This was the outcome fo the Glenn County Fair Board of Directors meeting held via Zoom on Tuesday, April 14. Proponents from both sides spoke to the board on the issues of public safety and the importance of creating some sort of normalcy for the junior exhibitors.
However, the board was split three to three, resulting in a "no-vote" per Bagley Keene.
The Glenn County Fair was canceled on April 1, 2020.
“As a result of the cancellation, the Glenn County Community is stepping up to help the kids who have worked so hard on their livestock projects,” CEO, Miki Martin said.
Several kids are working with buyers directly to sell their animals and Facebook Groups like Glenn County Youth Livestock and Glenn County Ag Expo have been created to connect kids and buyers, board directors said in a press release on Monday.
GLENN COUNTY, Calif. – The 2020 Glenn County Fair has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
The annual community event, planned for May 14 through 17, has been canceled over concerns of the coronavirus and community spread.
The Glenn County Fair Board of Directors and Fair Management said they have been monitoring the situation and working alongside local and state government officials to come to a decision.
“The decision to cancel was made by the Board of Directors on Wednesday night during an Emergency Board Meeting, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and State of California’s recommendations to stay at home. This is a difficult time for all of us and we realize the economic impact this has on the fair industry, our partners, exhibitors, friends and community,” board members said.
An Ad-Hoc Livestock Committee is being formed to explore options relating to an online sale and more information will be released as it becomes available, according to the Glenn County Fair Board of Directors and management.
For refunds, the fair staff is set to work on this in the next couple of weeks. Those with specific questions may email email@example.com
