OROVILLE, Calif. – Butte County Sheriff's investigators are seeking the public's help in locating an Oroville woman suspected of using a Bear Fire victim's stolen credit card.
On Sept. 13, BCSO deputies were patrolling the area of Cherokee Road in Oroville, which at the time, was under an evacuation order (it is now an evacuation warning), due to the Bear Fire. During their patrol, 49-year-old Friedrich Muniaerts, of Oroville was contacted.
Authorities said they determined Muniaerts was in possession of stolen property and had a no-bail warrant for violating the terms and conditions of his California State Parole.
BCSO conducted a follow-up and learned Muniaerts had snuck around a roadblock and illegally re-entered the evacuated Cherokee area on Sept. 10. Muniaerts resided at a home located on Cherokee Road and had evacuated around Sept. 8, when the Bear Fire began, according to BCSO.
It was then determined the stolen property Muniaerts was in possession of was taken from a Bear Fire victim. Deputies responded and determined the burglary had happened sometime between Sept. 9 and Sept. 13.
A search of Muniaerts’ residence was conducted on Sept. 14. where additional stolen property from the burglary was located, according to deputies. It was also determined a credit card belonging to the victim was taken during the burglary.
Detectives said the stolen credit card had been used to purchase tools and construction supplies at the Oroville Home Depot on Sept. 12. Detectives obtained video surveillance and said Sunshine Galvez, age 46, of Oroville, was the individual who used the stolen credit card at Home Depot.
Galvez is an associate of Muniaerts, according to BCSO. Detectives now have a warrant out for her arrest.
Muniaerts was placed under arrest for one felony count of residential burglary, one felony count of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and one misdemeanor count of unlawful entry into an evacuation zone, according to deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information about this investigation or the location of Galvez to contact Detective Zachary Price at 530-538-7671.
