CHICO, Calif. - Two people were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following a probation search of a Nord Avenue apartment conducted by Chico police.
22-year-old Joseph Ryan and 18-year old Michaela Defa Delacampa were arrested for being in possession of stolen property during the probation search.
Police said items taken from a vehicle break-in that occurred that same morning at a different location on Nord Avenue were discovered, as well as a 9mm handgun.
Police said Ryan was not allowed to be in possession of a gun due to his probation terms, so he was also arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges against Ryan include possession of burglary tools and violation of his probation.
Police said they requested a bail increase to hold Ryan due to "his likelihood to further victimize our community."
The Chico Police Department said there have been several vehicle burglaries over the last few weeks. They said usually those who committed the burglaries are long gone by the time the crimes have been reported.
