REDDING, Calif. - Redding Police Department responded to the 2300 block of South Bonneyview Road about a report of gunshots, the police said.

At 9:22 a.m. Friday, police received a report that a male fired a round into the air and pointed the gun at several people he thought were burglarizing a neighbor’s house.

The suspect took off from the scene in a black Ford Ranger which was located by Redding Police several minutes later.

The Ranger was getting onto Interstate 5 heading south where officers pulled the vehicle over.

24-year-old Jacob Johnson and 45-year-old Wade Withrow, both from Oregon, were detained.

In the vehicle, officers located two firearms and it was later identified that Johnson was brandished and fired the gun in the air.

Johnson was booked into the Shasta County Jail on five charges. Withrow was also booked into the Shasta County Jail on two charges.

August began seasonably hot on this Sunday with fewer showers and thunderstorms than previous days, but a few did still pop over the higher terrain. Our rain chances are disappearing, but the heat and smoke will remain.
