3 Redding vegetation fires extinguished Friday morning

Redding Fire Department put out three fires that burned one acre along Market St. Friday morning.

REDDING, Calif. - Redding Fire Department extinguished three separate vegetation fires on North Market St. Friday morning, said Redding Fire Department Battalion Cheif Eric McMurtrey.

First reports of the fires came in at 9:40 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene they found a quarter-acre fire about halfway up Market St. hill.

They then found a separate fire quarter-acre fire on North Market St. near Lake Blvd.

Firefighters put the fires out within 10 minutes as each fire burned about half an acre for a total of one acre.

California Highway Patrol helped control traffic and CAL FIRE and Redding Police Department also helped.

No structures were damaged and there are no reports of injuries.

The fire department said the fires were started by an improperly functioning vehicle exhaust system that accelerated up North Market St.
