CORNING, Calif. - CHP reports a 19-year-old Corning man was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision on Corning Road early Sunday morning.
According to CHP, this occurred on Sunday, April 19 at approximately 3 a.m. on Corning Road west of Freeman Schoolhouse Road in Corning.
CHP says the 19-year-old male driver of a 2001 Honda Civic was heading eastbound on Corning Road at an unknown speed. As the driver entered a curve in the roadway, the vehicle drifted on to the gravel shoulder. As the vehicle re-entered the roadway, it overturned and the driver was ejected.
According to CHP officials, the driver suffered major injuries during the collision event and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials believe the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Red Bluff Area.
