CHICO, Calif. - A 65-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was allegedly struck in the head and face with a pipe by a 19-year-old, Chico Police said.

At about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Chico police responded to the 1000 block of Columbus Ave. for a report of an assault.

When officers arrived, they found the 65-year-old man with multiple injuries to the head and face after being hit in the face by a pipe, police said.

Johntai Ray, 19, was located by officers near the 1100 block of Nord Ave where he was taken into custody.

Officer searched the residence and found a 40 caliber Glock-style Ghost Gun that was loaded with three rounds.

The gun had a thread on the barrel that is capable of attaching a suppressor to it. According to California law, a threaded barrel qualifies the gun as an assault weapon.

Ray faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon and a bail of $145,000.

August began seasonably hot on this Sunday with fewer showers and thunderstorms than previous days, but a few did still pop over the higher terrain. Our rain chances are disappearing, but the heat and smoke will remain.
