CHICO, Calif. - A 19-year-old was arrested for felony DUI after crashing into a vehicle at the intersection at W. First Ave. and Esplanade early Wednesday morning, the Chico Police Department said.

Police gathered information of a Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe driving recklessly on Esplanade near Panama Ave. at about 10:55 p.m. Tuesday night.

Then at about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday morning, police received information of a crash at W. First Ave. and Esplanade. When officers arrived they found a green Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe.

While at the scene, officers identified the driver of the Ford Mustang as 19-year-old Rebecca Griffiths.

An investigation revealed Griffiths was driving southbound on Esplanade when she ran a red light at the intersection of W. First Ave. and crashed into a vehicle traveling westbound on W. First Ave.

The Mustang then crashed into the traffic signal control box that controls the traffic lights.

The other driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Officers then conducted a driving under the influence investigation. Griffiths was then arrested for felony DUI due to the injuries the driver sustained.

There are now stop signs at the intersection until crews are able to repair the control box.
