CHICO, Calif. – Federal postal inspectors said P.O. boxes were broken into at both the main post office in Chico on Vallombrosa, and at the Durham Post Office.
The break-in happened between closing time Tuesday and when the offices opened on Wednesday. Victims will be notified about how to make a report.
Inspector Jeff Fitch said victims should also watch for identity theft and monitor credit cards for the next several weeks and report any suspicious activity to the postal inspectors.
Fitch told Action News Now this is a federal offense and a penalty of up to five years in prison. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Action News Now is working to learn how many were broken into and the estimate of damage.
