ROUND MOUNTAIN, Calif. - Shasta County deputies say on Thursday a man drowned after he went fishing and was swept away by a fast-moving current in Round Mountain.
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a call just before noon about a possible drowning victim at the Pit 7 spillway off Fender's Ferry Road.
Deputies learned that Edward John Forbis, 65, of Round Mountain was fishing, but fell into the water and eventually got swept away by a current.
One witness told deputies, that Forbis was in the water for over an hour.
Forbis was found a short distance away from the spillway, but he died on the scene.
Deputies were assisted by firefighters from Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit as well as the California Highway Patrol air operations.
Forbis' next-of-kin has been alerted about the death.
The drowning remains under investigation by the county coroner's office.
