1 killed, K-9 officer injured in shooting near Sacramento

One person was killed and a K-9 officer was injured in a shooting outside of a mall near Sacramento Tuesday night.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. - One person was killed and a K-9 officer was injured in a shooting outside of a mall near Sacramento Tuesday night.

The shooting happened at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday outside the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights. 

Police say officers responded to reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they saw a man with a gun in the Macy's parking lot.

Officers say moments after arriving, the man turned and immediately began firing at them. Police fired back, killing the man.

Gunfire also hit a K-9 officer. That animal was taken to the vet. No one else was injured and an investigation is underway.
