UPDATE: 4:40 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 - After completing the investigation, Chico Police Traffic Unit said Amy Booth intentionally drove her vehicle into a barricade at the end of West Eaton Road on May 11.
UPDATE: 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021 - Authorities have identified the person who died after crashing into a barricade at a high rate of speed in Chico Tuesday night.
46-year-old Amy Booth from Chico died Tuesday night after a crash at West Eaton Road and Rogue River Dr., according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office. The area was blocked off for about six hours as investigators processed the scene.
Witnesses reported the vehicle going between 80 mph and 100 mph, according to Todd Lefkowitz, traffic sergeant for the Chico Police Department. The K-rail road barrier that the driver crashed into had previously been placed there to prevent traffic.
It unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor and the investigation of the crash is ongoing.
