Teen identified as driver in deadly car accident near Biggs

The CHP announced Friday the driver who struck a man on Highway 99, south of Biggs Thursday night was 17.

UPDATE: 1:52 p.m. Feb. 5, 2021 - One person died Thursday evening after being hit by a car in Gridley.

The CHP announced Friday that both the driver and person hit were male. The driver was a 17-year-old and the man hit was 59-years-old.

The 59-year-old man hit was walking on Highway 99 and Pryde Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The minor attempted to avoid the man crossing but was unable to see him in time because of the older man's dark clothing, according to the CHP. 

The CHP says drugs or alcohol were not a factor. The victim's name has been released.

GRIDLEY, Calif. - Cal Fire confirmed that a person died after being hit by a car south of Biggs.

The person was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m. Thursday. The accident took place at Highway 99 and Pryde Ave.
