CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Police Department responded to a call about a stabbing on Sunday afternoon at the homeless camp area at Comanche Creek off of Park Avenue on the south end of the city.
Police said the initial report came in shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Officers said they arrived within minutes when they discovered a male victim who was suffering from a stab wound.
The victim, they said, was unresponsive. Officers called for medical aid but said the victim died from their injuries at Enloe Medical Center.
Police Lt. Mike Williams said one person is in custody.
Williams said it is a "very fluid case" and said they have not identified a motive for the stabbing.
"It was reported that two male subjects were involved in an altercation and one subject had been stabbed," police said.
The stabbing investigation has turned into a murder investigation, according to the Chico Police Department.
Police said they believe this to be an isolated incident and do not believe there is any threat to public safety.
