TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. - On Friday evening the driver of a white 2014 Subaru Impreza died after losing control of the car on Highway 3 south of Hayfork Dump Rd. in southern Trinity County. A 33-year old passenger was taken to a Redding hospital with major injuries, said the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The names of the driver and the survivor of the crash have not been released to the public at this time.
At 6:30 p.m. on Friday the CHP responded to a report of a person who lost control while driving northbound on Highway 3. The CHP was told the car ran off of the west side of the road and had crashed into a tree. According to the CHP this caused "significant intrusion int0o the passenger compartment."
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts according to the CHIP, who said the cause of the collision is under investigation and "it is suspected alcohol may have been a factor."
