PARADISE, Calif. - Two men who were involved in a road rage incident and a physical altercation involving a shotgun on Sunday has one man in custody, according to Paradise Police Department.
29-year-old Cameron Phillips of Chico and a 34-year-old Chico resident were driving from Chico to Paradise when they got involved in a road rage incident.
Once they got to the area of Neal Road and Skyway, they were involved in a minor collision, causing the men to pull over across from Paradise Town Hall.
Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded and located the two men and it appeared they were involved in a physical altercation.
The two men got out of their vehicles and began to argue at the rear of Phillips’ vehicle that was located in a lane at the 5500 block of Skyway.
Phillips said the man threatened him with a knife prompting Phillips to pull out a shotgun from his trunk.
Both men began to struggle over control of the shotgun and the 34-year-old was struck in the head with the shotgun causing a significant injury, police said.
The man was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for the injury.
Police recovered the shotgun which was unloaded and evidence on the scene was consistent with the statement of the two men.
The victim’s vehicle and surrounding areas were searched and a knife was not located.
Phillips was taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Butte County Jail.
