The annual Enrollment Period for Part D drug plans and Part C Medicare Advantage Plans is open through December 7th. Passages  Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is providing community workshops to help Medicare beneficiaries make the best possible choice for their needs for the coming year.
The workshops tackle changes in medicare, which drug plans remain in the area, where there are increased premiums, etc...
In some cases even $20 can mean a big difference for those on limited incomes.
Passages is a non profit organization that helps adults and family caregivers with important services to empower them to remain confident in their ability to sustain and enjoy independent lives. Officials there warn people to be on the alert for insurance agents using aggressive tactics to sell health insurance.
While workshops have been taking place in a number of North State communities since mid October, there are just two remaining and they both take place in Chico.
One is on Thursday, November 9th from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Lakeside Pavilion. There will also be a workshop on Tuesday, November 14th from 9 a.m. - Noon at the Enloe Conference Center.
Registration is required, even though the workshops are FREE RSVP by calling 530.898-6716.
Passages is also offering "The Commandments of Caregiving"  on Tuesday, November 14th from 9:30 a.m. - Noon at the Butte Creek Country Club.
Nationally reknown speakers Karen Stobbe and Mondy Carter will head-up an interactive session covering body mechanics, home safety tips, taking care of you, and that four-letter word: guilt.
The couple have been caregivers to Karen's parents for more than 20 years. They have been featured on TEDMED, in Real Simple Magazine and on National Public Radio's "This American Life". Karen was the co-developer of the CMS Hand in Hand Training Toolkit, which was sent to every nursing home in the USA.
This event is also FREE but you are asked to RSVP by November 9th by calling 530.898.5925.

Some showers are expected in your Monday forecast, but will mostly be in the northern end of the valley and mountains. Scattered mountain showers linger Tuesday, then dry and warmer weather takes hold for the middle of the week. Wet weather returns next weekend.
