While many passengers may prefer to fly in a window seat, a new report says that windowless planes can actually provide many flying benefits, including cheaper flights.
Emirates is working to create a plane with no windows, which will allow the plane to be lighter, travel faster, burn less fuel and fly higher.
However, the model still provides the illusion of windows with monitors that display the outside of the plane from the view of a window seat.
"We are projecting fiber-optic cameras from the outside," said Tim Clarke, president of Emirates. "The quality of the imagery is so good its better than with the natural eye."
Simon Calder, a travel editor for The Independent, says that windowless planes could decrease the cost of flying.
"They are cheaper to make," he said. "They are structurally more coherent and they reduce drag."
Clarke said that windowless planes could become a reality in the next 10 years. Get more details on the planes in the video.
